Bangkok – May events: Italian Festival in Thailand 2016

The May billboard of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2016 is particularly dense, with the Italian Embassy in Bangkok offering over 50 cultural and promotional events thanks to the support of 41 Italian and Thai sponsors and 21 local partners.

This months’s programme was launched on 6 May with a dual event: the Siam Paragon Italian Grand Weekend – Smooth Lifestyle, Urban Glamour, Live Music, in one of the landmark malls of Bangkok, featuring two exceptional bands – the electro-swing quintet led by Simona Molinari, the rising Italian pop star and lead singer of “A casa mia” and “Dell’Aria”, and the creative Sousaphonix sextet with Mauro Ottolini and their “music for a carefree society”. The bands will hold a second performance on 7 and 8 May, during a weekend devoted to promoting Italian brands and food and wine products.

In parallel, harpist Chiara Capobianco will open the International Solo Festival at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, where she will replicate her performance on 7 May.

On 10 May, jazz lovers will be able to enjoy the Thai world premiere of the refined performance of pianist Danilo Rea, on tour across Asia with his new album “Something in our way”.

The events will resume on 18 May with a performance by the Mezzotono orchestra, a versatile Apulian youth band that sings “chapel” songs without instruments, which will celebrate the 70th anniversary of world-renowned motor scooter Vespa. It will be followed in the afternoon with a Food & Wine event of the ‘Business Culture’ cycle on the creative excellence of Italian entrepreneurship.

The May billboard of the Italian Festival – wich goes on until December –  will close on 30 May with a concert of famous Italian opera arias by 4 Italian singers accompanied by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Carlo Magni to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the historic Mandarin Oriental Hotel, featuring a menu of exclusively Italian wines and food funded with the proceeds of the charity gala dinner organised to sponsor projects promoted by the Royal House of Thailand.
