Peru – Focus on Fortunato Depero “Futurist and Global Artist”

“Fortunato Depero, Futurist and Global Artist” is the title of an exhibition organised by the Italian Institute of Culture of Lima, at the Galeria del Centro Cultural PUCP, from May 17 to July 2. The event is part of the initiatives of the Year of Italy in Latin America. The exhibition was previously displayed in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at the MAC USP Ibirapuera until March 27, which also hosted a conference on “Fortunato Depero and the Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe”, with the aim of exploring further aspects of the life and the world of this fascinating Italian artist. The conference was attended by academics such as Ana Gonçalves Magalhães, art historian (USP) and curator at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo (MAC-USP), and Vanessa Bortulucce, art historian (UNICAMP) and researcher. The event also screened the recently released documentary film, “Depero, Rovereto, New York and Other Stories” by Nello Correale. The Year of Italy in Latin America is a project promoted by the Farnesina in association with the ministries of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and of Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), and the Conference of Italian University Rectors, with the contribution of a number of companies. Over 200 events will highlight contemporary Italy and its culture, economy, science and technology. It is an ambitious and complex project which seeks to promote Italy’s identity and talents in Latin America.
