A conference sponsored by the Carabinieri and the State Forestry Department, reflecting their shared commitment to protecting the environment, is taking place this morning at the Carabinieri Officer Training School in Rome, providing an opportunity to examine the link between climate change and migration, and Italy’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability in the context of the UN. The conference will be attended by Minister Gentiloni and the Ministers of the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti, and Agricultural Policy, Maurizio Martina, as well as the Commander General of the Carabinieri, Tullio Del Sette, and the head of the State Forestry Department, Cesare Patrone.
The two-day event will be attended by senior representatives of national and European institutions, foreign governments and national and international bodies and associations working to protect the environment.
Against the backdrop of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement, the Conference intends to deepen discussions on environmental matters within the framework of the European TECUM (Tackling environmental crimes through standardised methodologies) programme which, under the guidance of the Carabinieri, with the cooperation of the Italian Ministry of the Environment, the Spanish Guardia Civil and the Romanian Environmental Guard, coordinates the illegal traffic in waste in particular.
