“This is a celebration we specially have at heart, not only because it gives us the opportunity to get people better acquainted with Italy and the Italian Embassy, but also because it is Europe Day,” said Armando Varricchio, the Italian Ambassador in Washington. Indeed, everything is ready for the celebration of Europe Day on Saturday, 14 May, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the Italian Embassy will become a window on Italy, opening its doors to the public just like all the other embassies of the member Countries of the European Union. The celebration will envisage a broad range of activities and initiatives with a special focus on culture and sport, Brand Italy products, science, history and technology. The events programmed – which span from music and theatre performances to food and wine shows and research, all of which from a Made in Italy perspective – have been organised in conjunction with the Italian Institute of Culture in Washington and a large number of partners comprising cultural and scientific institutions, associations and companies. The theme chosen with the other European Countries is: the Best of the EU. “It is an opportunity – Ambassador Varricchio went on – to stress our pride in representing Italy, which was one of the Founding Countries of the European Union and has always been among the staunchest supporters of its fundamental values. It also gives us a chance to highlight, through an entertaining but educational approach, our uniqueness, starting from our common roots.”
