The “Amabili Resti” exhibition by local artist Iris Broquedis has opened in Santiago, Chile, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC). The event forms part of “Incontri 1” (Encounters 1), a year-long exhibition project under the aegis of the Consejo de la Cultura y de las Artes that aims to develop a multidisciplinary creative journey of Italo-Chilean cultural exchange, through five exhibitions from different curatorial perspectives. The central theme of this exhibition is the historical migration between Italy and South America. The artist has created actual garments out of handmade paper, decorated by pieces of printed texts and needlework based directly on those from that era of transatlantic migration, when various Italian groups arrived in Chile (in Iquique, Valparaiso, La Serena and Concepcion).
The exhibition and the “Incontri 1” project are part of the initiatives for the Year of Italy in Latin America, promoted by the Italian Foreign Ministry with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), the Conference of Italian University Rectors and the contribution of numerous businesses. The main goal is to promote Italy’s identity and talents in Latin America.
