Mexico – ‘Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia’ cycling competition arrives in Mexico

The residence of the Italian Ambassador in Mexico, Alessandro Busacca, hosted a press conference to launch the Mexican edition of “Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia” in the presence of the Governor of the State of Mexico Eruviel Avila Villegas. The country’s main newspapers were present for the press launch of the first sporting event in Mexico inspired by the famous cycling competition. The race, which will be held in Mexico on June 12, will include about 3,000 professional and amateur cyclists from various parts of the world. The “Gran Fondo” is an international series of events, created in 2012 in the U.S., which has gradually spread to the whole world. The idea is to make the experience of the “Giro d’Italia” more accessible to foreign cyclists and spread its values and history worldwide. There were eight events in 2012 and 2013 alone: two in Pasadena, another two in Miami and one in Sea Otter, New York, Beverly Hills, and Jerusalem. Over 10,000 racers and 100 exhibitors attended the events. There are also various international competitions scheduled this year: one in Vienna and the other, to be held on June 5, in Northern Ireland. After the Mexican event there will be others in the U.S., Panama, Colombia, Costa Rica and Brazil. Two events were previously held in Italy: one in Cividale del Friuli (May 22) and the other in Mortirolo (May 17).
