Mozambique – Italian music and cinema celebrated in Maputo

Italian music and film are back in centre stage in Maputo, Mozambique. In the week following Italy’s National Day on June 2, there will be several Italian cultural events, this year centred on classical music and contemporary cinema. The event opened with a concert by pianist Daniele Riscica in the Avenida Theatre. The young Italian musician played pieces by Schumann, Liszt and Chopin.

The “8 and 1/2 – Festa do cinema italiano”  film festival was opened today and will run until Saturday, 11 June, screening 11 recent Italian films, including “Chiamatemi Francesco” by Daniele Luchetti, “Tale of Tales” by Matteo Garrone and the blockbuster “Quo Vado?” with Checco Zalone. The first film will be shown at the Avenida Theatre, and the others at Spazio Italia, a multifunctional facility used to promote Italy recently opened in Maputo. The programme of the Festival, now at its 8th edition, also includes special screenings and activities for young people, organised in partnership with the “Giovanni Falcone” Italian School in Maputo.
