A book called “Scuole, maestri e pedagogie nel Messico prima e dopo la rivoluzione” (Schools, teachers and teaching methods in pre- and post-revolutionary Mexico) will be presented on Tuesday, 16 August at 6 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Mexico City. The study of Mexico’s education system is in the journal “Annali di Storia dell’educazione e delle istituzioni scolastiche”, which is published by La Scuola in Brescia. “The release of this book by a prestigious Italian publishing house with text in both Italian and Spanish is proof of the quality and strength of the cultural exchanges that are increasingly shaping Italy and Mexico’s relations. The Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to promote and host this event,” the IIC said.
The presentation will be attended by the book’s curators Massimo de Giuseppe, Hilda Iparraguirre Locicero and Federico Lazarín Miranda, and will provide a chance to discuss the past and the present. Massimo de Giuseppe and Graciela Fabián Mestas noted that “the matter of building scholastic institutions and teaching and training facilities has become one of the cornerstones of national discourse, in both its liberal and revolutionary phase, and is one of the great topics of affirmation and legitimisation for post-revolutionary governments”. The subject is analysed through a long-term historical perspective, making it relevant to the present. The IIC said the discussion “will also contribute to the continuing debate on the educational reform Mexico began in 2012-13”.
