On September 28, the Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, will inaugurate “Allegoria della pittura” (Allegory of painting), an exhibition by Ofelia Andrades proposing a review of Italian Baroque works through the lens of a Chilean artist. Her paintings, inspired by Realism set in contemporary art, evoke Italy’s Baroque traditions and reveal an influence by Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi. Andrades’ solidly defined human bodies, the use of flashes of light and expressive gestures forever frozen on canvas, remind us of Italy’s great Baroque masters, whom the artist both celebrates and measures herself against them.
