Finland’s government allocates 28 mln euro for the Balticconnector pipeline

The Finnish government has proposed the allocation of funds amounting to 28 million euro for the construction of the Balticconnector pipeline between Finland and Estonia. The funding, which would be dispensed as a capitalisation of the state-owned company, Baltic Connector Oy, will be included in the 2016 balance to be released in October. On July 15, the European Commission had announced an allocation of 187.5 million euro (75 percent of the total cost) to Baltic Connector Oy and to the Estonian company Elering AS, for the construction work. Balticconnector is a bi-directional pipeline connecting the gas grids in Finland to ones in the Baltic countries. The project envisages a 22-kilometre onshore connection in Finland, between Siuntio and Inkoo, and a compressor station. A 78-kilometre underwater pipeline would be added, connecting Inkoo to Paldiski in Estonia. On the Estonian mainland, the project envisages a 54-kilometre gounded pipeline, a compressor station and, for the grid covering the city of Tallin, a gas pressure reduction station.
