The Vincenzo Balzani Piano Recital will be held at Malta’s St. Patrick’s Church in Sliema at 7 p.m. on 29 October. The concert is organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture, in conjunction with the Italian Cultural Institute in La Valletta, as part of the “Classical Music Stars in Malta” cycle of concerts that regularly hosts musicians of international fame. Vincenzo Balzani was born in Milan and graduated in piano from the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan with summa cum laude with honours, under the tutorship of Alberto Mozzati. He began his concert career at only 14 years of age when he won the National Piano Competition of La Spezia and the “Förster-Ricordi” contest in Milan. At 16 he won the “Liszt Prize” at the “Maria Canals” International Competition in Barcelona. During his career Mr Balzani has been on tour all over the world, performing in more than one thousand concerts for the most important companies and the most prestigious theatres: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, San Carlo in Naples, Comunale di Bologna, Petruzzelli in Bari, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Olimpico in Rome, the Festivals of Bergamo and Brescia, The Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, Settembre Musica in Turin, etc. He also made numerous radio and TV recordings and recorded LPs and CDs with music by Scarlatti, Mozart, Hummel, Beethoven, Chopin (all his Études), Rossini/Liszt, Schubert/Liszt, etc. Since 1973 he is the Chair of the Piano Department and currently teaches at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan; in recent years he has held masterclasses and lectures both in Italy and abroad. He is regularly invited to sit on the jury of national and international piano competitions.
