Spain – Italian Embassy in Madrid organises event to help Italy’s earthquake-stricken population

An important charity event will be held on Saturday Oct. 22, in the courtyard of the Italian School of Madrid, to raise money for the population affected by the earthquake that devastated central Italy on Aug. 24. Pictures of the victims and the damage caused by the quake left a profound mark in the souls of our Spanish friends and of the many Italian nationals living in Spain, who responded with great generosity to the humanitarian appeals launched in the days following the catastrophe. The Italian Embassy in Spain set up “Madrid abbraccia il Centro Italia” [Madrid Embraces Central Italy], to voice the concern expressed by Spanish institutions and Madrid’s civil society. The event will be held outside the Italian School of Madrid (Calle Agustin de Betancourt, 1) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is proof of the solidarity in Spain with the earthquake-stricken communities, organised by the major Italian institutions and associations in Madrid: the Italo-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Italian School, the Comites in Madrid and the Societa’ Italiana di Beneficenza. The charitable event will be an opportunity for anyone wishing to make a contribution. Throughout the day, chefs  will prepare their own version of “pasta all’amatriciana,” a dish originating in Amatrice and popular across the world. Amatrice is one of the towns that have been badly affected by the devastating earthquake, and has become a symbol of many charitable event. The funds raised will be donated to the Italian Red Cross, one of the major humanitarian organisations operating in the earthquake area.
