Washington – Six Italian scientists receive awards in the United States

Six researchers, aged between 30 and 40, have become the pride and glory of Italy in North America. Six talents, six prizes, and the winners are  Ilaria Iacobucci, who received the  Paola Campese Award for research in leukemia;  Gaetano Santulli and Silvia Balbo who received the Hogan Lovells Award in Medicine, Biosciences and Cognitive Science; Umberto Berardi won the Franco Strazzabosco Award for Engineers; Patrizio Antici received the Anna Maria Molteni Award in Mathematics and Physics.; and Andrea Isella the Young Investigators Award in Environmental Sciences, Astrophysics and Chemistry. These Italian researchers made their mark in U.S. and Canadian research centres and were awarded the prizes during a ceremony at the Italian Embassy in Washington organised by ISSNAF, the foundation of Italian Scientists in North America which has 4,000 members involved in scientific research. The president of the foundation, Vito M. Campese, said: “In science, boundaries have no future and cooperation networks, [such] as ISSNAF, are immaterial infrastructures which represent an added value. I wish to thank the Italian Embassy in Washington and all the guests honouring us with their presence. We are particularly happy to have promoted Human Technopole, which ISSNAF considers to be  an  excellent project, to become the first of a long list of projects attracting Italians now abroad and enable them to bring back home  the knowledge developed in years of work. The same holds true for foreign researchers to be welcomed to Italy,” The Italian Ambassador to the United States, Armando Varricchio, said: “[The] Italian scientific community in the United States is made up of excellent professionals, and contributes considerably in reinforcing cooperation between Italy and the United States in a strategic area of bilateral relations. Networking actions promoted by the ISSNAF offer concrete opportunities to focus and develop further such collaboration.”
