Today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is hosting the Conference entitled “Legality and security in Latin America: strategies, shared experiences, and cooperation perspectives”, organised as part of the celebrations of the 150th Anniversary of the foundation of the Italo–Latin American Institute (IILA).
The Conference unites the Ministers of Justice of many Latin American Countries and the representatives of several regional Organisations, in a dialogue with the officials of Italian institutions to jointly take stock of the situation and outline the perspectives of the fruitful Italo-Latin American cooperation in the key areas of security and combating transnational organised crime.
The event issues from Italy’s five years of operational cooperation (2011-2016) with the Central American Integration System (SICA) and with SICA Member Countries in combating organised crime and in in supporting the Rule of Law, traditionally the two most dynamic areas of mutual interest which have given rise to significant synergies and cooperation, especially through training programmes for magistrates and Public Security forces, jointly organised by MAECI and IILA.
The Conference programme envisages a Ministerial Round Table, open to the press, at 2:15 p.m., including contributions, among others, by the Minister of Justice Andrea Orlando, followed by closing remarks, open to the press, by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the President of the Republic of Colombia and recent Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Juan Manuel Santos Calderòn, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, introduced by the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General, Elisabetta Belloni.
