The Italian Cultural Institute (IIIC) in Strasbourg is preparing to host the exhibition titled “Paris 1900. Sguardo sulla scena. Regard sur la scéne . Glance on Stage. Portraits of actresses by Alfredo Muller.” The event, opening next Thursday is the result of meticulous work carried out by the ‘Friends of Alfredo Muller’ association. It brings together a series of portraits of actresses, engravings and lithographs depicting Paris in the Belle Epoque. Commissioned by his Parisian publishers, the works were produced by the Franco-Tuscan artist in 1900, while the French capital was preparing to host the Universal Exhibition.
The exhibition will run until 3 February and is accompanied by a 3-language booklet entitled “Paris 1900. Glance on stage”, published in 2016, with the support of the IIC, and containing many anecdotes and a preface by Helene Koehl, the Association’s president and a descendent of the artist. The inauguration will include readings of reviews published in the press at the time, as well as poems by Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine, set to music and sung by pianest Francis Matter.
