Qatar – A concert to help the populations struck by the earthquake

Support the Italian populations struck by the earthquakes in 2016. This is the aim of the charity concert organised by the Italian Embassy in Qatar next 26 January at the Opera House in the Katara Cultural Village in Doha. The box office proceeds and the revenue from a special lottery sale will be entirely devolved to the Municipal Councils of Fiastra and Acquacanina to rebuild the elementary and middle school building that caters to both communities.

The concert’s programme envisages a list of classical music pieces, opera arias and soundtracks from Italian films, spanning from Verdi and Rossini to Morricone and Rota, performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Qatar, a multinational orchestra known worldwide and which, for the occasion, will be directed by Maestro Alberto Veronesi. The concert will also feature soprano Felicitas Fuchs, the Qatar Concert Choir and Qatari singer Ali Abdul Sattar.

The many local music lovers and the numerous international communities present in Doha are enthusiastic followers of the local Philharmonic Orchestra and promise a large turnout at the concert.

“Not only did the Government of Qatar immediately come to the rescue of Italy in August 2016 after the first round of earthquakes, sending humanitarian relief supplies, but now it is the Country’s cultural institutions, spearheaded by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Qatar and the Katara Cultural Village that, within the context of the constant cooperation with our Embassy, have answered our appeal and want to provide a tangible contribution,” said Ambassador Guido De Sanctis in a press conference held in Doha this morning. Also thanks to the charitable participation of Maestro Alberto Veronesi, soprano Felicitas Fuchs and singer Ali Abdul Sattar, the concert will not bear costs for the Embassy. Ambassador De Sanctis went on: “Note should also be taken of the contribution of all the companies, hotels, restaurants and luxury shops in Doha, which provided accommodations and put up the money for lottery prizes.”

The Mayors of the two Municipalities concerned will be present at the concert and will have the opportunity to directly thank the Orchestra, the evening’s guest stars and the audience for contributing to rebuilding their local school.
