Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on opportunities for the port infrastructure and services sector

An infrastructure meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on opportunities in the port infrastructure and services sector, coordinated by the Directorate General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation and attended by around thirty representatives of companies  operating in the maritime sector (construction, logistics, ICT, safety and security), trade associations, financial institutions, design and consultancy companies.

The meeting took stock of the opportunities that exist in this sector in  countries considered strategic, particularly in emerging markets, based  on the information gathered by the diplomatic network, and details were presented of the “One Belt One Road” initiative and its implications  for the  development of port infrastructure in Asia and Europe.

The purpose of the initiative is to encourage reflection by the private sector on the most interesting projects and the formation of groups of  Italian companies into supply chain-like network, the offers of which will be supported by our Embassies with local authorities, as was the case with the Italian Alliance for Ports, coordinated by Leonardo/Finmeccanica, in relation to the plan for the expansion of the Pointe-Noire Sea Port (Congo-Brazzaville).

Since 2013, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organised industry-focused  meetings to discuss opportunities overseas for the implementation of  complex projects including ports, airports and railways, particularly given the importance of the construction sector for the national economy and the importance of institutional support for participation in these projects, especially in emerging countries.
