Italian Economic Diplomacy 29 March: latest news from around the world

A meeting to present investment opportunities for the Samara Region , Russia

An outline of investment opportunities and incentives in the Samara Region was presented at a meeting recently held at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Moscow. It was attended by institutional leaders of the Samara Region and the Togliatti municipality as well as representatives of the Italian business community in Moscow.Togliatti, which was the most important automotive district at the time of the Soviet Union, is an ancient Russian city with an Italian name. It carries a historical relevance, since it is the place from which Fiat motorized the whole country. Today, the city and its region are engaged in an effort to relaunch their economy. To this purpose, they established a Special Economic Zone for foreign investors with a special tax system: a tax rate on transportation and real estate equal to 0%; a 2% tax rate on returns; a state guarantee based on a special administrative system and a special track for inter-customs transport. According to 2016 data, Togliatti SEZ ranks third in Russia in terms of attractiveness for foreign investments and guaranteed conditions. The chemical and auto component industries are among the most interesting sectors for Italian enterprises. The Samara Region is actively participating in the road-show program which the Italian Embassy, in conjunction with ICE, the Italian Trade Agency, and Confindustria, has designed to present investment opportunities in Russia. The roadshow will come to Southern Italy at the end of May.
