Lebanon – “Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay!”, Dario Fo’s theatre on stage in Lebanon

Dario Fo’s magnificent work wil go on stage at Beirut’s Irwin Theatre with the comedy “Can’t pay? Won’t pay!” (1974) adapted by Lina Abyad. The event, staged from March 14 to 19, has been organised by the Lebanese American University in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute in Beirut. In the play, inflation hits a record peak. Frustration releases the tension the moment Antonio leads a revolt in the local supermarket and plunders the premises. Antonia and her friend Rita try desperately to hide the stolen goods from their husbands and the police. This powerful social comedy, sees Dario Fo focusing on serious issues, relevant to the public. In a world which believes that  food and lodgings are not a privilege there is an increasing number of people, no matter where they are, that cannot afford a decent home or food.
