Major challenges for global macroeconomic stability -The role of the G7

The conference titled “Major challenges for global macroeconomic stability -The role of the G7” was organised at the Farnesina by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), and the Bank of Italy. The programme of the event envisaged two sessions: the first dedicated to macro-economic coordination policies and the second to international trade.

The Conference was open with remarks by Massimo Gaiani, Director General of the MAECI for the internationalisation of companies and global issues, and Ettore Greco, Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali. It was attended by eminent representatives of the academic world and of national institutions. Both sessions were moderated by Fabrizio Saccomanni, Vice President of the IAI.

The Conference explored the long-term dynamics that characterise the development of the global economy by analysing three macro areas of strategic interest: trade relations, macroeconomic policies and financial markets. Focus was also placed on the role that is and could be played by international cooperation, especially the one developed within the G7, in tackling the challenges posed by the global economy.

In this context, the Italian presidency of the G7 in 2017 will be able to make an important contribution in defining the orientations of the international economic agenda.

The Conference agenda envisaged drafting three research papers, one for each of the research sectors analysed.
