Manama hosts the opening of the “Ever Closer Union” exhibition and organises two events in partnership with the Italian Embassy and the United Nations Office

The 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome was celebrated with two events in Bahrain, both of which were promoted by the Italian Embassy in conjunction with the United Nations Office. On 21 March, the “UN House” in Manama hosted a workshop on the outcome of Europe’s extraordinary integration process and on current challenges. In representation of Bahrein, the workshop was attended by the Undersecretary for International Affairs, Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who expressed admiration for the European unification process and reaffirmed the importance of cooperation between the EU and the GCC. The other speakers were Prof Hartmut Mayer from the University of Oxford, who traced the milestones of the European project, and Prof Pasquale Borea (the Dean of the College of Law of the Royal University for Women in Bahrein), who analysed the similarities and differences between European integration and cooperation within the GCC.

On 23 March, a second event structured in the same format was dedicated to Bahraini youths (university students, youth associations, international schools) and was attended by a large and lively audience.

The event continued with the ribbon-cutting of the “Ever Closer Union” exhibition, which will remain open for several weeks.
