Peru – Giuseppe Tornatore‎’s “La sconosciuta” screened in Lima

The Italian Cultural Institute in Lima will host the screening of Giuseppe Tornatore’s film “La sconosciuta” [The Unknown Woman], with Kseniya Rappoport, Michele Placido, Claudia Gerini. The film was awarded a David di Donatello prize in 2007 for the best film director. Giuseppe Tornatore created a film based on real incidents in the racket of young prostitutes coming from eastern Europe. The story is straightforward with no emphatic expressions, and develops by intersecting several temporal planes. It sheds light on sexual slavery not so much as a social issue, but as the backdrop to a cruel psychological thriller that keeps the audience’s attention alert till the very end. The camera focuses on a female character who tries to reclaim her femininity and a portion of her life, without aiming for high-tech effects, definitely making it easy for audiences to watch. This film was also awarded the Nastro d’Argento prize in 2007.
