The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, is in La Valletta to attend the informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers (Gymnich).
The meeting will focus on the major issues on the international agenda. After the meeting, Minister Alfano will have a bilateral meeting with the EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, to discuss matters relative to the Western Balkans, also in view of the Trieste Summit of 12 July to be held under the Italian Presidency. On the fringes of the Gymnich meeting, Minister Alfano will also meet with the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Linas Linkevičius, to discuss the issue of migration, security and transatlantic relations and the relationship with Russia, in addition to the Neighbourhood Policy towards its Southern and Eastern neighbours and the future of the European Union following the summit held last 25 March.
Lastly, in Malta Minister Alfano will meet representatives of the Italian business community at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador before attending a working dinner with the delegates of the Accession Countries.
