22 new diplomats swear loyalty to the Republic

“Today you become the voice of our Country abroad. In all the contexts in which you will be called to operate, always remember that serving Italy today means targeting your actions on our national interests and on those of Europe,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, in his address at the oath-taking ceremony in which 22 young diplomats swore loyalty to the Republic.

The ceremony was highly symbolic and marked the full incorporation of the newly appointed public officers into Italy’s diplomatic service following a nine-month trial period during which they attended a professional training course named after a great Italian diplomat of the past, Attilio Cattani, and started working in the offices of the Farnesina. Some of them are getting ready to leave the Country to serve at Italian Embassies and Consulates abroad.
