Mask, marionette, comedy icon: the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Sao Paulo pays tribute to the “Prince of Laughter”. On the 50th anniversary of the death of the great Antonio de Curtis, a.k.a. Totò, on 15 April 1967, and as part of the “50 anni senza Totò” (“50 Years without Totò”) cycle of events dedicated to Italian cinema, the film “Totò, Peppino e La… Malafemmina”, a comedy directed by Camillo Mastrocinque in 1956, will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 20 June. The screening is scheduled at the IIC (Salão do instituto – av. higienópolis, 436). Along with Totò, the film also features Peppino De Filippo, Dorian Gray, and Teddy Reno. Totò was one of Italy’s most renowned artists, and the symbol of Italian comedy: an all-around artist who performed both in the theatre and in the cinema (he starred in 97 films) but also a poet and songwriter.
