Astana – The future of energy at the Expo: Friuli in Kazakhstan

Italy’s ​Friuli Venezia Giulia Region is participating in Expo 2017 Future Energy taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 30 July to 5 August. The Italian region will represent a Smart Land focusing on the future of energy and strongly committed to innovate in all sectors. Inside the Italian Pavilion, the Region will present its best resources in the field of renewable energy, sustainable mobility, recycling and energy saving. The all-around multimedia space assigned to Friuli Venezia Giulia will be inaugurated on Sunday 30 July before the Italian Ambassador in Astana, Stefano Ravagnan, representatives of the Municipality of Astana and Kazakh authorities, among others. Several events have been scheduled among which the signing, on Monday 31 July, of a Memorandum of Cooperation between KazakInvest and BioNet aiming to study and replicate an innovative bio-energy plant producing electricity from toxic waste through anaerobic digestion, which will be set up in the capital city of Friuli. The plant, developed with the support of the University of Udine, will produce bio-methane for transportation purposes, CO2 for industrial use and purification and charcoal, in addition to electric and thermal power from biogas. The event will close with the transcription of the MoC by the Scriptorium Foroiuliense, a unique Italian calligraphy school based in Ragogna. On Tuesday 1 August and Wednesday 2 August, the regional councillor for the Environment and Energy, Sara Vito, will coordinate the workshops and presentations of the Region’s points of excellence participating in Expo 2017. The activities on schedule will all focus on innovative solutions for energy, water and gas utilities, urban waste disposal, and regional community sustainable energy development models.
