An exhibition on Franco Fontana will soon open in Cetinje, in Montenegro. The exhibition is co-organised by the National Museum of Montenegro and the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Belgrade, in partnership with the Centro di ricerca e archiviazione della fotografia (CRAF) and the People’s University of Trieste. The exhibition will open at the “Miodrag Dado Duric” Art Gallery on 28 July and will run to 1 September.
Franco Fontana, born in Modena in 1933, is an Italian photographer easily recognisable through his essential style built around coloured backgrounds.
His images are built around the poetry of colour, transforming nature into abstract forms. The artist has displayed work in over 400 solo and collective exhibitions in museums and galleries the world over, including the Third International Colour Biennial of Vienna in 1963, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Musée d’Art Moderne e la Ville of Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum of London. He has worked for the Centre Georges Pompidou, in addition to the Ministries of Culture of France and Japan. He was also appointed artistic director of the Toscana FotoFestival.
