Jordan – Memorandum of Understanding to treat the most vulnerable children

“Hope for the most vulnerable Jordan and Syrian children”. It is with great pride that the Italian Embassy in Amman has hosted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Representative in Jordan of the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and the ‘Bambino Gesù’ Pediatric Hospital. The agreement has been actively supported by the diplomatic mission in Jordan, led by Ambassador Giovanni Brauzzi. “This initiative benefits from the experience gained in conducting the ‘humanitarian corridors’, which enables the transfer of particularly vulnerable and needy patients to Italy stemming from the crucially dramatic conflict taking place in Syria. The Italian commitment in health settings has been particularly appreciated by the Jordan authorities, who have facilitated actions in cases in which the conditions would otherwise be hopeless, ” said the Italian Ambassador.
The agreement signed in Amman will enable severely ill children to be treated by ad-hoc medical missions, not only in oncological, cardiac and neurological cases, but also for those with cardiovascular, ophthalmological and orthopaedic conditions. The UN agency has already collected a list of at least 1500 young patients in need of specialised surgery, which will be treated by the end of the year.
