Italian Film Festival Bangkok

As part of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2017, the Italian Embassy presents the third edition of the Italian Film Festival Bangkok.

The event is curated by the Dante Alighieri Association (under the artistic direction of Maurizio Mistretta) and is co-organised by The EmQuartier and Quartier CineArt, with the sponsorship of Generali Thailand and Benetone Films and the support of Velvet Media.

The latest seven prize-winning Italian films will be screened in afternoon and evening shows through the week from 12 to 18 September.

The titles span different genres, from drama to comedy: “Se Dio Vuole” (“God Willing”), “Perfetti Sconosciuti” (“Perfect Strangers”), “Piuma” (“Feather”), “Il Ragazzo Invisibile” (“The Invisible Boy”), “I volti della Francigena” (“Tales from Via Francigena”), “Io, Arlecchino” (“I, Harlequin”) and “La Pazza Gioia” (“Like Crazy”).

Italian Ambassador Francesco Saverio Nisio and Italian-Thai actress Preem Ranida Techasit will be present at the opening.

Tickets can be purchased at Quartier CineArt, 4th floor, EmQuartier. The films will be screened in Italian with subtitles in English and Thai.

This year’s edition of the Italian Film Festival Bangkok schedules three collateral events:

1. Italian-Thai 90 seconds short film competition, organised in cooperation with Benetone Films. It is a prize contest for local and foreign filmmakers working in Thailand that aims to promote the production of 90-second shorts on the theme “COLOUR OF ITALY”, where the word “colour” is intended in broad terms, and includes the representation of images, sensations and fragrances associated to Italy in Thailand. The winners of the contest will be announced on 12 September and the winning shorts will be screened in the cinema theatres before the showing of the Italian films participating in the Festival.

2. Roundtable on film distribution and co-production, aimed at promoting Italy and Thailand as cinematographic “locations”, scheduled for 14 September at the Italian Embassy (by invitation only).

3. Workshop on Italian cinema, co-organised by the Associazione Dante Alighieri Bangkok and the Chulalongkorn University on 16 September.
