Denmark: Italian Itinera will build a new bridge on the Storstrom Strait

Gavio Group company Itinera has won the tender for the new Storstrom Bridge in Denmark. The project, which is worth approximately 282 million euro, was commissioned by the Road Directorate of the Danish Ministry of Transport. Itinera will be the main partner with 51% in a joint venture with Condotte d’Acqua and Grandi Lavori Fincosit, while Seteco Ingegneria will be a subcontractor for technical consultancy work. The contract will be signed by the end of the year, and work is expected to start in 2018. The bridge shall be completed by 2023. The new Storstrom Bridge will connect the islands of Zealand and Falster on the Baltic Sea and will be an integral part of the infrastructure plan to connect Denmark to Germany via the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel.. The new Storstrom bridge will replace the old one, which was built in 1937. It will be the third longest bridge in Denmark, after the Storeblt and the Oresund bridges, and will be four kilometres long and 24 metres wide. It will have two road lanes capable of handling about 8,000 vehicles a day, two high-speed railway tracks that will be on the Copenhagen-Hamburg railway line, and a pedestrian and a cycling lane.
