Rigorously in black and white to tell the wealth of civilizations, myths, and the extraordinary nature of the ‘Mediterranean’. This is the title given to the collection of photographs by Mimmo Jodice which is part of a project curated by the Scientific Committee of the Farnesina Collention, in cooperation with the Mart of Rovereto and with the Cotroneo family who owns the collection.
The exhibition is a side-event of the two-day meeting of the directors of the Italian Cultural Institutes held at the Foreign Ministry and ideally opens the “Italy, Cultures and the Mediterranean” festival that will represent our cultural diplomacy in 2018 on the two shores of the Mediterranean, in the Countries of North Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf, from Iran to Morocco.
Italy is the crux of this region, the crossroads between the past and the present, overlooking this Sea, a place of coexistence and dialogue that bears witness to a common cultural heritage against intolerance and indifference. In his research, Mimmo Jodice shows references to traces of the past in this basin rich in cultures, in a continuous interplay of cross-referencing to a common blueprint.
