“My mission to Dakar is further proof of a gradual strengthening of the bilateral relations between Senegal and Italy, which in the past year have grown even stronger because of the commitment we share in facing up to the socio-economic causes of migration, and thanks to the close cooperation we had within the UN Security Council. Today, I met the Senegal Minister of Foreign Affairs and together we signed a cooperation agreement on judicial matters. It will allow us to make our cooperation grow stronger in a sector that is becoming all the more important for our bilateral relations. From an economic perspective, Senegal offers interesting opportunities, especially in the fields of infrastructure, sustainable urbanization and energy. Our bilateral relations are growing also in the cultural field. This is why I opened an Italian Cultural Institute in Dakar,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, regarding his mission to Dakar on 4 January. During his visit, the Minister held meetings with the President of the Republic of Senegal and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Facilities, and Women, Family and Children Affairs. Minister Alfano also met the representatives of the Italian community in Senegal.
