At the recent St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Enel – through its subsidiary for advanced energy services division, Enel X – and RusEnergyoSbyt, an energy supplier established as a joint venture between Enel and Esn, signed an agreement with the Russian railway company RzhD.
The partners will jointly develop energy storage systems to be installed across the Russian railway network, one of the most extensive in the world. This will help stabilise the power supply on the Russian railways, improve train management, and avoid costly reconstruction of the network.
There is a significant innovative aspect to the agreement; it is the first time that this type of battery technology is used in the railway sector.
