“I am sure that Pristina’s process to move closer to the European Union will provide further incentive to strengthen the already excellent political and economic relations between our two countries,” said the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, to his Kosovan counterpart, Behgjet Pacolli, when welcoming him today at the Farnesina.
“The numerous meetings at all levels strengthen and bear witness to the historical friendship between Italy and Kosovo. Italy’s continued focus on the relations with the people of Kosovo and institutions shows the strategic importance that Italy places on Kosovo and the whole Balkan region,” added Minister Alfano. “Italy confirms its firm support to Kosovo in its advancement towards the European Union, including through instruments such as twinning and projects financed by pre-accession funds”.
As for the recent tensions in the relations between Pristina and Belgrade, Minister Alfano wished “both sides to act responsibly in order to further the normalisation of their bilateral relations.”
