Iceland: Unicredit buys a minority share in Meniga for 3.1 million euros

Unicredit announced closing a deal with the Icelandic company Meniga for the purchase, through Unicredit EVO (Equity Venture Opportunities), of a minority share in the company worth an estimated 3.1 million euros.

The Agreement is preliminary to a future partnership with Meniga, a company established in 2009 and specialised in developing software to support the digitalisation of banking services. The sum invested by Unicredit will be used to develop software products and platforms to enable its customers to benefit from evermore customised digital banking services. Software will be made available to Unicredit deposit holders that will enable them to simultaneously consult the state of their debit/credit card transactions, the operations carried out on their current accounts and use new functions such as financial alert systems, investment planning and spending suggestions based on the users’ personalised profiles.

Thanks to its investment in Meniga, Unicredit will be able to also improve digital solutions for payments online or via smartphone, to be preliminarily launched on the Italian and Serbian markets in order to pave the way for a more widespread distribution at global level. Through this investment, Unicredit intends to comply with the new EU payment services directive, whose approaching coming into effect is liable to lead to increasing and improving online banking services by enhancing competition between financial players.
