Italy’s Economic Diplomacy, 26 September: latest news from the world

SOUTH AFRICA – Sparkle expands its network coverage from South Africa to the U.S.

The South Atlantic Express (SAEx) project, financed by South Africa, consists of installing a submarine fibre optic system connecting Asia to America via South Africa. Sparkle, through its own pan-American network, will enable SAEx to extend its coverage to the U.S. East Coast. The initial phase of the project envisages crossing the Atlantic Ocean by connecting SAEx’s South Atlantic section of cable from Cape Town to Brazil and upwards to the East Coast of the U.S., landing in New Jersey. Sparkle is also planning to deliver interconnectivity services in Brazil and technical and commercial assistance in Brazil and in North America. The operation marks a further step forward in SAEx’s effort to grow both westward and eastward from South Africa, forming a global system that covers two oceans and four continents. The project also confirms Sparkle’s leadership in the area and its capacity to deliver low-latency connectivity in addition to complete technical and commercial support.
