The Council for Partnerships and Investment Programs of the Presidency of the Brazilian Republic has qualified eight projects as priority projects in the energy sector, and calls for tenders are expected by the end of the year. The tenders are for projects in the areas of oil & gas, nuclear energy, power generation from renewable sources and electricity transmission lines, for an estimated value of around 146 billion reals (about 36 billion euros).
In the Oil & Gas sector, three tenders are expected in the last quarter of the year for a total value of approximately € 29 billion. The nuclear energy project concerns the conclusion of the Angra 3 nuclear power plant in the State of Rio de Janeiro; the entry into operation of Angra 3 is scheduled for 2026 with an investment of 15 billion reals (about 4 billion euros).
As regards the generation of electricity, the first tender for the production of clean and renewable energy is scheduled for June 27 (energy production starting from January 2023), and a second tender for September (energy production starting from January 2025). The bids may involve small, medium and large-sized hydroelectric power plants with 30-year contracts, and wind, solar, and thermoelectric biomass plants with 20-year contracts. For the second tender the contracts also concern coal and gas thermoelectric power plants, with 25-year contracts.
Moving on to transmission lines, a tender is scheduled for December with the aim of upgrading the quality of the public infrastructure, ensuring the supply of energy at the lowest price and improving the connection between the various regions and the national system. The concessions offered concern the public service of construction, operation and maintenance of transmission installations for a total of 2,447 kilometers of distribution lines in 10 states (Goias, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Acre, Parà, Bahia, Alagoas, Cearà and Rio Grande do Sul). The planned investments amount to around 3.42 billion reals (850 million euros). A second tender involves the connection between Boa Vista in Roraima and Manaus in the State of Amazonia.
