Italian Economic Diplomacy 06 February: latest news from the world

NEW ZEALAND – NEW INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS ANNOUNCED

As part of New Zealand’s Public Investment Plan, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced the allocation of NZD 12 billion of infrastructure projects (approx. EUR 7 billion), published last December.

Approximately NZD 5.3 billion has been allocated to new road infrastructure, 1.1 billion to railway projects, 400 million to cycle paths and overpass projects, 400 million to school building projects, and 300 million to hospital building projects. The allocation of the remaining 4.5 billion will be set out in the next budget package to be presented in May 2020.

In view of the recognised openness of New Zealand’s procurement procedures to international companies, after they have established as a company under the local law, the Plan opens up considerable opportunities for Italian construction and engineering companies, particularly for those already operating in New Zealand or in nearby Australia. This is due both to the absence of a national industry in those sectors, and to the interest in seeking the technically most advanced  solutions on the market.
