Sparkle announces the launch of Metamorfosis II, the first “green” data centre in Greece and one of the largest and most advanced in Europe. With this new opening, Sparkle brings the number of data centres managed in Greece to four: three in Athens – interconnected by a proprietary fibre optic network that traverses the industrial district of the city, also reaching corporate and institutional clients – and one in Crete, for a total space of 14,000 m2 and a power of 13.7 MW.
All the data centres are interconnected to the Nibble network, Sparkle’s pan-Mediterranean optical network, and to Sparkle Seabone’s Tier-1 global IP backbone, to offer high-speed international connections and access to leading cloud service providers. Furthermore, Sparkle’s data centres offer a rich ecosystem of interconnected operators, to expand the offer of national and international connectivity.
Sparkle’s data centres are sustainable, secure, state-of-the-art infrastructure that has been designed to house our clients’ IT systems and provide fast and reliable connectivity globally.
Located in the Metamorfosis industrial area of Athens, right beside one of our other data centres, this new computing centre covers an area of 6,000 square metres, with a capacity of up to 700 racks and 7.7 MW of power and a modular design to meet customer needs. It has been constructed in accordance with anti-seismic criteria and is designed to guarantee the highest levels of reliability and safety.
Furthermore, Metamorfosis II adopts the most advanced energy-efficient power supply and cooling systems, for a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 28,000 tons per year. The new data centre has Uptime Institute Tier III, LEED Gold and ISO 14001 certification.
