Algeria. Stellantis and Investment Promotion Agency sign operating agreement to produce FIAT-branded cars in the area

In Algiers, Stellantis and the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency have signed an operating agreement that enforces the framework agreement signed on 13 October 2022 for starting a FIAT-branded car production project in Algeria.
The FIAT car factory will be built in the town of Tafraoui, in the Wilaya (province) of Oran, on a 40-hectare lot of land. An adjacent, 80-hectare parcel of land will be dedicated to local suppliers and sub-suppliers, in order to develop a proper ecosystem through a local integration plan, thus enhancing the know-how of the stakeholders already operating in the country while also identifying new stakeholders that can help achieve the pre-established production targets and develop new activities. Indeed, Stellantis’ project aims to develop the automobile production supply chain in Algeria, reaching a local integration rate of 30% within five years, while also contributing to the country’s technological development.

The factory’s initial output will be roughly 60,000 cars in the first 12 months and will eventually soar to 90,000 cars per annum when fully operational. This Agreement envisages that, in addition to production, FIAT will also deal with the development of industrial activities, post-sale services, provision of spare parts and training of workers.
