The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, will travel to Brussels this evening to attend the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, scheduled for tomorrow, 22 January.

Immediately after an informal exchange of views with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba, the Council, which will be chaired – as usual – by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrell, will discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine focusing, in particular, on long-term security scenarios.

The 27 Ministers will discuss the situation in the Middle East, focusing on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the risks of the conflict spreading to the region. Within this framework, they will discuss the options available to the EU to ensure freedom and security of navigation in the Red Sea. They will have separate informal meetings with the Israeli and Palestinian Foreign Ministers, the Secretary General of the Arab League and the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.

On the sidelines of the Council, the Deputy Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with his European and Middle Eastern counterparts.
