On the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Italian Embassy in Moscow, Pietro Sferra Carini, today went to the Solovetsky Stone, where he laid a bouquet of flowers on the spot where a memorial has been improvised in memory of the Russian opposition activist, Alexei Navalny.
The Solovetsky Stone is the monument dedicated to the victims of political repression, located in Moscow near the Lubyanka building, the historical headquarters of the KGB.
The laying of flowers by Sferra Carini took place shortly after Minister Tajani’s meeting with Alexey Navalny’s wife in Brussels on the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council.
Minister Tajani said: “Italy stands by Yulia Navalnaya. We will support her in defending the values of freedom and democracy for which her husband fought at the cost of his life”.
