Minister Terzi speaks with his Danish counterpart Villy Søvndal

Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi spoke by telephone today with his Danish counterpart Villy Søvndal. Along with his hopes for Denmark’s successful turn as President of the European Union, for which Minister Terzi assured Italy’s undivided support, Terzi expressed Italy’s concurrence with the priorities outlined by the Danish government, in particular the multi-year financial framework, strengthening of the internal market, the agendas proposed for the justice and home affairs sector as well as for foreign relations, with specific regard to enlargement and the Neighbourhood Policy.

The two ministers agreed on the need for a more substantial European Union commitment to the economic development of the countries along the southern shores of the Mediterranean by facilitating their access to the European market, as well as to support for the transition underway in the North African democracies and their interaction with Europe.

In that regard Terzi, referring to his series of upcoming visits to the region, suggested the possibility of adapting the European Security Strategy to the changes that have taken place in the wake of the Arab spring.
