Press release detail

The family members of Paolo Bosusco have just received the news that we have all been waiting for since 14 March last: Paolo Bosusco is free. The announcement came from Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi, in Washington attending the G8 Foreign Ministers Meeting.

“A very risky and complex situation is coming to an end”, said the foreign minister, “that has unceasingly involved many people at all levels, and whose aim has been, as it is in every case of this sort, to ensure the safety of our co-national. I am deeply grateful to the Crisis Unit, our diplomats in India and all those who contributed to this important outcome, which fills us with great satisfaction, and for which we also owe a debt of gratitude to the State authorities of Orissa and New Delhi for their collaboration.

Our efforts to secure the release of others being held hostage in other countries continue with the same determination. Our thoughts are with the families and wives of Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone . We share the anguish of these hours. The foreign ministry is at their side and continues in its attempts to resolve the situation in a positive manner”.
