“Another very serious and unacceptable move by the Assad regime”: Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi expressed his firm indignation and condemnation after a Turkish military plane on a non-offensive mission was shot down over the Mediterranean by a Syrian surface-to-air weapon, confirming that Italy would take an active part in next Tuesday’s meeting called by Turkey in pursuance of Article 4 of the NATO Treaty.Minister Terzi reiterated the unacceptability of the increasingly intolerable humanitarian conditions under which the Syrian people are being forced to live by the Damascus regime, which is responsible for the failure to apply the Annan plan and for the persistent and very serious violence preventing the observers from carrying out their mandate.
