Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi received President of the Italian Committee for UNICEF Giacomo Guerrera at the foreign ministry today, whom he assured of Italy’s full support for the fund raising campaigns on behalf of Syrian children, the primary victims of the violence in that country, who are being forced to abandon their homes to take refuge in neighbouring countries. A few days ago Terzi pledged Italy’s commitment to the humanitarian efforts proposed by UNICEF, endorsing the “Syria, let’s not forget the children” campaign.
Within the frame work of the UNICEF projects, Minister Terzi underscored the importance of transmitting a culture of tolerance and respect to children through education. “I asked the President of UNICEF Italia”, Terzi explained, “to promote programmes that teach respect for freedom of religion and worship, an essential principal and indispensable prerequisite for peaceful coexistence among peoples, and in the name of which Italy is actively campaigning in every possible international forum”.
