“This violence is even more unacceptable as it targets the innocent and most defenceless”, Minister Giulio terzi expressed his disgust for the brutal bombardment yesterday of the city of Aleppo that left dozens dead, including many children, and over 150 wounded. The minister also expressed his condolences and solidarity with the families of the victims of what he described as “abominable barbarism”.
“The irresponsible behaviour of the Assad regime”, Terzi continued, “which does not hesitate to strike down its own civilian population, “is deserving of the firmest condemnation”.
Italy reiterated its solidarity with the Syrian people and hopes that a credible political process based on the proposals of the opposition coalition, which it recognises as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people, will lead to the end of the conflict and the start of a transition toward democracy and the rule of law.
