Minister Bonino meets National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) delegation

Foreign Minister Emma Bonino met a delegation from the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) at the Farnesina today, 10 June 2013. The delegation was led by the Chairman, Joseph Del Raso.

Talks focused on the bonds with the Italian-American community and, more generally, on developing ever-closer links between Italy and the United States in the training, youth exchange and cultural promotion sectors.

Minister Bonino underscored the common heritage of culture and values underpinning the extraordinary links between Italy and the United States. She thanked the NIAF leaders for their key role in fostering the re-introduction of the Italian “Advanced Placement Program” in American high schools.

Chairman Del Raso told the Minister that NIAF is keen to raise the profile of Italy’s spheres of excellence in the economic world and in the most distinguished cultural circles in the USA. The institution, he pointed out, has the capacity to attract significant financial resources from American businesses for the success of Expo 2015.

Minister Bonino asked NIAF to help raise the profile of the Museum of Italian Emigration at the Vittoriano monument in Rome. The delegation expressed an interest in doing so, and aired the possibility of creating a network of museums of emigration throughout the world, starting with the one currently being set up in Washington.
