Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Bruno Archi and Deputy Minister for Transport of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Quy Tieu signed the Air Services Agreement (A.S.A.) today at the foreign ministry in Rome.
The agreement, the first on air transport between Italy and Vietnam, will regulate air transport services (passengers, goods and mail) in keeping with recent changes in community norms, and which outlines the general legal framework for the future development of bilateral aeronautic relations.
This new agreement coincides with a major boost in bilateral relations – which celebrate their 40th anniversary this year – witnessed also by Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party Trong’s visit to Italy in January, and Deputy Minister Bruni’s planned visit to Vietnam in July of this year, in an effort to intensify the political interface between the two countries and to create fertile terrain for the economic/trade penetration of our country’s businesses in that area. Vietnam is a partner of growing importance for Italy, and the European Union in general, as a result of its increasing political and economic weight in the vast region of Southeast Asia, a market of nearly 600 million people.
