Under-Secretary Mario Giro meets the Presidents of Burkina Faso and Guinea Conakry


“Priority countries for Italy and for the stability of Sahel and North Africa. Interested in establishing closer relations with Italian businesses”.


In the margins of the presidential ceremony in Mali, Under-Secretary Mario Giro met the President of the Republic of Niger. The President thanked Italy for its support and cooperation. More specifically, he recognised the important role played by the border police cooperation programme to combat terrorist infiltration. “The police cooperation and training programme is important, but to stabilise the country social investment is also needed”, declared the Under-Secretary, as he announced a forthcoming mission to Niger by Italian Development Cooperation.


With the President of Burkina Faso, Giro discussed regional stability. They agreed that stabilisation in Mali will be a very long process. “The Italian Cooperation office will soon be opening”, announced the Under-Secretary.


Lastly, Under-Secretary Giro met the President of Guinea Conakry, with whom he underscored the importance with which Italy views the elections there. The President confirmed his commitment to holding the elections and stressed his interest in Italian business investment in his country.
